We Quiet Weaned all of our Red Poll calves today with the Heifers calves averaging just shy of 600 pounds and the Bull calves coming in at 670 pounds average. We weaned the steer calves a couple of weeks ago and they averaged 734 pounds.

Quiet Weaning entails putting a flap in the calves nose for five days while the calf stays with its mother. After five days the flap is removed and the calf is separated from its mother. At that point the calf is used to not drinking milk and he/she just goes about its day eating hay. When we quiet wean we also vaccinate the calves and weight them for our records. It is a very stress free period and the calves adjust well.
I should have the EPD numbers for this years calf crop within the next few days and then when time allows I will be putting together this years sale catalogue.
