Winter feeding

286

Here we are half way through winter and things have been going great.  Cows are in the best shape ever and our young bulls are gaining an average of 1.4 pounds per day on straight hay.  The replacement heifers are less at just under a pound per day but their mineral intake is down so will give them a mineral tub to help things along.

More than half of the young bulls are already sold, likely due to the fact that we sold out last year (again).

The Leopold calves are impressive with the bull calves all between 740 to 780 pound while his heifers average 675 with one small one in the mix, if she was out they would be 705.  I will be interesting to see where these end up as our cow herd averages 1100 pounds mature weight.

A great start to the new year and all the best to everyone.
